About The Position

This role involves providing intensive, child-focused support to young people and families who are experiencing crisis, are at risk of family breakdown, or are on the edge of care. The work aims to prevent children from entering care, support family reunification, and promote long-term stability and positive outcomes. The Peripatetic Outreach Worker will work across homes, communities, and partner agencies to build meaningful relationships, deliver creative interventions, provide practical and emotional support during crises, assess strengths, risks, and needs, complete assessments and reports, and collaborate with professionals. Support is required outside normal office hours, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people and families.
  • Understanding of child development and the challenges facing vulnerable young people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build trust with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Adaptable, resourceful and able to work independently.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Strong observational, assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for helping families achieve lasting positive change.
  • Full driving licence and daily access to a vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to achieve this qualification following appointment.

Responsibilities
