About The Position

The Mental Illness Recovery Center (MIRCI) is a progressive Non-Profit that assists homeless individuals, adults and youth, with clinical needs and permanent housing and is seeking an Outreach Worker. This professional, nonexempt position is regular full-time. The role involves daily street outreach and in-reach to shelters to engage with homeless individuals in the Midlands, providing assistance with securing food, shelter, clothing, and referrals to other supportive services. The goal is to address barriers to obtaining services, housing, and appropriate healthcare.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in the social sciences
  • 2 years of experience in a human services program
  • Knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other public and private agencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective contact with individuals, families, and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Some knowledge of the techniques of interviewing and counseling.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to be credentialed and maintain a license in HMIS
  • Must have a valid SC driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must be certifiable in defensive driving and Standard CPR/1st-Aid.
  • Some local travel within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily street outreach and shelter in-reach to develop relationships with clients.
  • Assist clients in addressing barriers to obtaining services, housing, and appropriate healthcare.
  • Participate in outreach team meetings.
  • Provide advisory and consultative services to others within the outreach program.
  • Conduct a VI-SPDAT on all new clients to connect them to the proper intervention and services.
  • Ensure all program data is accurate and provided to administrative/data staff for entry into HMIS.
  • Identify and outreach to homeless persons to determine who is in need of services.
  • Provide street case management services with the goal of linking youth to long-term supportive services and housing.
  • Work with agencies/organizations to maximize clients' abilities to stabilize housing and improve self-sufficiency.
  • Work with MIRCI's Homeless Outreach Team to identify and engage youth/young adults who are homeless or at risk.
