The Interventional Radiology Perioperative Assistant will provide assistance with supportive clinical tasks as defined by policy and procedure, under the direction of licensed RN staff and Surgeons. This role involves supporting staff in other departments, assisting with patient repositioning, relocating equipment, and performing point-of-care testing. The assistant will communicate with patients, families, and the healthcare team, and will be responsible for identifying and transporting patients to and from surgery, as well as responding to codes in the OR and PACU. Additionally, the role includes operating positioning equipment under supervision, preparing operating rooms, maintaining a clean environment for equipment and instruments, and ensuring all necessary items for procedures are present. The assistant will also participate in the maintenance of the Surgery Department through cleaning and disinfecting OR tables and floors, handling chemicals safely, running biological testing, and maintaining the blood refrigerator. Stocking and supplying the Surgery area, transporting deceased patients, and procuring patient information are also key duties. Direct patient care assistance includes transferring patients, assisting with positioning and patient safety, holding patients for regional anesthesia, assisting with surgical preps, and performing surgical clipping. The role also emphasizes professional growth, self-development, and objective setting through continuing education, departmental meetings, and participation in new staff orientation.
