About The Position

The Perinatal Technician for Labor and Delivery performs designated direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The role flexes job focus between a surgical scrub technician during labor, delivery, post-partum, and newborn nursery, and a unit secretary and receptionist role as necessary to meet department needs in an environment that quickly changes. The technician utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service, safety, and professionalism. Other duties as needed.

Requirements

• Graduate of accredited Operating Room Technician or Surgical Technician program required.
• Solid knowledge of surgical asepsis and infection control required.
• Basic knowledge of anatomy and obstetrical and gynecological surgical instrumentation required.
• Knowledge of surgical technician scope of practice required.
• Able to speak, read and write legibly in English.
• Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program.
• Operate and troubleshoot patient care equipment required for the position.
• Perform basic patient care activities using proper body mechanics and safety precautions.
• Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.
• Be consistent in following policies.
• Work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.
• Orient and teach employees new to position.
• Accept direction.
• Collaborate with RN to problem solve.
• Perform duties with supervision.
• Perform basic math functions.
• Manage multiple patient assignments effectively.

• Pay close attention to detail.
• Hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone.
• Identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place.
• See adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position.

• Exhibit professional behavior at all times.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association required.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within six months of hire.

Nice To Haves

• One year experience as a surgical technician preferred.
• One year Obstetrics Surgical Technician experience preferred.
• Spanish preferred.
• Operating Room Technician certification preferred.
