About The Position

This perinatal nurse position is a part of a fast-paced, critical program that provides expertise and nursing leadership to ensure the highest standards of care for women throughout the reproductive cycle and their infants are met. This position is one of 4 nurses who, under the general supervision of the Perinatal Nurse Administrator, evaluate the designation and redesignation of birthing hospitals and perinatal centers to ensure compliance with state statute. This position will coordinate and monitor Maternal and Child Health (MCH) program activities, including audits, confidential medical records, individual care plans, and overall medical care coordination. This position will also develop educational materials, conduct statewide training sessions, and serve as a trusted nurse consultant to healthcare providers and administrators.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in nursing with courses in public health nursing or related field.
Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in nursing.
Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate.
Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Requires evidence of current auto insurance.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree preferred.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience with Maternal and Child Health Programs or equivalent.
Two (2) years experience providing consultative services to administrators, program coordinators, bureau chiefs, etc., on clinical/medical issues relative to Maternal and Child Health.
Two (2) years experience developing educational curriculum, materials, or brochures for training
Two (2) years experience performing training and education or conducting presentations at conferences and workshops.

Responsibilities

Provides nursing expertise and leadership in the development, interpretation, periodic updating of “best practice” standards, and enforcement of regulations (code) and program contract specifications related to programs impacting women, through the reproductive cycle, and infants including programs such as Title V, WIC, Title X, Title XIX, Title XX and Part C.
Coordinates and monitors assigned Maternal and Child Health (MCH) program activities, audits, confidential medical records, which includes evaluation of client assessments, individual care plans, face to face client visits, home visits and the overall coordination of medical care.
Develops and conducts statewide regional training activities for MCH and Regional Perinatal Administrators.
Provides professional direction, leadership, and consultation to Regional Perinatal Administrators. Programmatic consultation, includes but is not limited to, working with Perinatal Administrators to develop and implement a quality assurance program.
Acts as a resource to MCH program providers, community organizations, professional and lay people to identify MCH needs within the geographical area and develop plans to meet those needs.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
