About The Position

TO OPERATE EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION AND AUTOTRANSFUSION EQUIPMENT DURING ANY MEDICAL PROCEDURE IN WHICH IT IS NECESSARY TO ARTIFICIALLY SUPPORT OR TEMPORARILY REPLACE A PATIENT'S CIRCULATORY OR RESPIRATORY FUNCTIONS.

Requirements

• MUST BE CERTIFIED BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION, OR (IF NEW GRADUATE) CERTIFICATION BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION WITHIN 18 MONTHS OF HIRE.
• CERTIFICATION BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION, OR (IF NEW GRADUATE) CERTIFICATION BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION WITHIN 18 MONTHS OF HIRE.
• KNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION FUNCTIONS AND TECHNIQUES.
• SKILL IN OPERATING EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION AND AUTOTRANSFUSION EQUIPMENT.
• KNOWLEDGE OF IMPLANTABLE VENTRICULAR ASSIST DEVICE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE.
• SKILL IN SET UP/OPERATION OF IMPLANTABLE VENTRICULAR ASSIST DEVICE EQUIPMENT.
• VERBAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
• INTERPERSONAL SKILL TO INTERACT WITH PHYSICIANS, PATIENTS, AND OTHER STAFF.
• ABILITY TO REACT CALMLY IN STRESSFUL SITUATIONS.

Responsibilities

• Monitors the altered circulatory process, initiates appropriate action when abnormalities arise, and keeps surgeon and other personnel fully informed.
• Ensures the sterility and integrity of packaging of disposable equipment used as well as the correct setup and breakdown of disposable and non-disposable and sterile and non-sterile equipment.
• Monitors cell saver and operates the heart-lung machine, blood gas analysis machine, clotting time/heparin analyzer, and cardiac-assist devices.
• Records relevant perfusion information during surgery; analyzes and maintains records after surgery.
• Performs quality control/preventive maintenance to ensure accuracy and longevity of equipment.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
• Conducts periodic in-service training and research activities.
