Barnes Jewish Hospital is a 1500-bed level one trauma center with 17 Perfusionists, where 70% of cases are scheduled. The role offers an exciting and challenging atmosphere with complex cases and a strong Perfusion Team with diverse backgrounds and experience. Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Its staff includes full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Perfusionists at Barnes-Jewish Hospital work in a fast-paced environment, testing professional judgment and critical thinking skills, and encouraging tremendous growth. They collaborate with world-renowned surgeons and anesthesiologists, assist on unique and complex procedures, work with the latest technologies and treatments, and play a vital role in developing new procedures and treatment protocols. Under the general supervision of the chief perfusionist and attending physician, the BJH perfusionist provides cardiopulmonary and mechanical circulatory support for patients with emphasis on complex procedures including support for heart failure and non-cardiac procedures and level 1 trauma support.
