Under the supervision of a physician and/or staff perfusionist, the Perfusion Assistant will be capable of independently operating and maintaining autologous blood therapy devices and other related equipment. This role is responsible for assisting staff perfusionists in adult cardiopulmonary procedures requiring heart-lung bypass and adjunctive procedures that include VAD and ECMO. The Perfusion Assistant will aid in equipment maintenance and assist in maintaining the disposables inventory. This position involves setting up, calibrating, and operating electronic monitoring and diagnostic equipment used during surgery and the postoperative period, as well as setting up and priming extracorporeal circuits and setting up and transporting intra-aortic balloon pump consoles. The role also includes maintaining quarterly deep cleaning schedules for cardiopulmonary bypass and all perfusion-related machines, as well as cleaning machines after each procedure. Additionally, the Perfusion Assistant will perform weekly cleaning and daily peroxide testing for heater coolers and document appropriately, restock perfusion supplies in the OR and sterile core to pre-determined par levels on a daily basis, and enter data into the departmental database.
