About The Position

This role involves leading energy audits and retro-commissioning activities, identifying energy savings measures, calculating savings, estimating costs, and preparing assessment reports. The engineer will assist sales staff by qualifying the feasibility of energy efficiency and capital improvement opportunities. This includes attending customer meetings, conducting site visits to gather facility and utility data, and developing/running energy screening models (e.g., bin analyses, hourly building simulations, commercial analysis packages) to assess technical and economic viability. Responsibilities also include performing preliminary engineering/design, project metering, coordinating with vendors/contractors for designs and proposals, developing technical scopes of work, managing engineering resources for cost and schedule determination, and providing key proposal input (technical descriptions, risk definitions, financial descriptions, supporting documentation). The role requires building alliances, influencing decision-makers, and managing projects with minimal guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or construction related degree.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in HVAC, EMS and central plant design.
  • Experience in energy analysis to identify, screen, and develop energy conservation measures for EPC and design build projects.
  • Specific experience with building energy systems including HVAC, Central Utilities and Electrical Systems.
  • Possess highly developed interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Technical or proposal writing experience.

Nice To Haves

  • PE Professional Certification.
  • General experience with the Federal ESPC, State and Local Performance Contracting, and/or Demand Side Management programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of energy-efficient technologies, their application and energy auditing.
  • Familiarity with the use of standard energy engineering software.
  • Familiarity with measurement and verification of savings for performance contracts.
  • Familiarity with project cost accounting and estimating.
  • General experience with design, construction, and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge and experience with building simulation tools such as Visual DOE, Trace, Carrier E20, eQuest, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Manage internal and external engineering resources to determine cost and schedule.
  • Provide proposal input, including technical project descriptions, legal risk and responsibility definitions, financial descriptions, and supporting documentation.
  • Build alliances and influence key decision-makers.
  • Deliver and manage work with minimal or no guidance, including the design, development, and implementation of efficiency and/or commissioning projects.
