About The Position

The Percussion Instructor (Marching Band) at Liberty High School, also referred to as Percussion Tech, is responsible for providing skills that will engage all levels of percussionists and promote musicianship. The goal is to enhance student learning, improve the overall quality of the band, and maximize educational opportunities for each child. This role requires developing musicians to their fullest potential, starting with basic fundamentals and progressing to advanced skills. The instructor must foster a positive professional relationship with students, teachers, parents, and the audience, possessing an enthusiastic attitude and understanding of intermediate and high school students in a band setting.

Requirements

  • Percussion performance experience
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience working with junior high and/or high school youth
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Iowa City Board of Education
  • Work to form a positive professional relationship with students, teachers, parents and audience.
  • Possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate and high school students in a band setting.
  • Develop musicians to their fullest potential, starting with teaching basic fundamentals and progressing to skills beyond what is considered average.
  • Willing to work cooperatively with other programs.
  • Willing to work in the summer, on weekends, and at other allowable times in order to maintain a quality program.
  • Willingness to perform additional duties as requested by administration.
