Under the direction of the Manager, provides system-wide foreign language interpreting (verbal) to enable understanding and successful communication between KH's patients/families with limited English proficiency (LEP) and KH's provider and staff. Demonstrates operational knowledge of and adherence to the interpreter standards of practice and code of ethics. Documents required information and data accurately and in a timely manner. Supports the Interpreter Services program at KH through working constructively in a team, participating in program functions, and performing other programmatic tasks as requested by the program manager. Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient information and must comply with the terms of the Kaweah Health Policies as it applies their job role. Recognizes and responds quickly to emergency situations. Greets the public and provides information as requested. Provides information as appropriate to patients, their families and visitors. Demonstrates knowledge of all services provided by the KH as well as the location. Must be able to give clear instructions. Demonstrates the ability to use computer systems effectively. Coordinates customer service initiatives to ensure satisfaction through prospective, concurrent, and retrospective methods. Facilitates resolution of patient and customer complaints in accordance with Kaweah Health policy. IF ASSIGNED AS LAHU INTERPRETER ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR:Interprets over the phone as needed. Translates documents from English to Lahu. Tracks and maintains language statistics and develops interpretation devices usage report. Enters Language Resource Assistant interpretation logs into department database. Maintains Language Resource Assistant intranet site. Occasionally enters interpretation requests to create daily schedule. Tracks departmental invoices and creates reports. Additional Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Requires successful completion of the Language Resource Assistant (LRA) testing at a Clinical level. LRA is a language assessment test that demonstrates written and oral interpretation/translation technique skills. Test will be administered during the interview.
  • Required:One year of interpretation experience or enrollment in an Interpreter training program
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Computer skills
  • Customer service crisis training strongly recommended
  • Excellent communication skills, tact, stress management skills, and the ability to relate well with diverse personalities and cultures.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of healthcare experience with the major emphasis of job duties focused on customer service, performance improvement, training or educating others.
