About The Position

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is seeking a Per Diem Cardiac/Vascular Ultrasound Technologist for its Rockville Center location. This role involves performing a wide range of cardiac and vascular ultrasound studies, contributing to sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic care within a major regional healthcare resource committed to medical education and research.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field or completion of an accredited program in cardiac and vascular ultrasound.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) OR with Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) and Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS). One must have one cardiac credential and one vascular credential.
  • Candidate may apply for a position if they have one credential (cardiac or vascular) with the requirement of obtaining the other second credential within one year of hire.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Must maintain active registry status.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Performing all cardiac ultrasound studies including echocardiograms, treadmill stress echocardiograms, pharmacological stress echocardiograms, echocardiograms with ultrasound enhancing agents and agitated saline studies.
  • Performing all vascular ultrasound studies including carotid duplex, upper and lower extremity venous and arterial duplex studies, abdominal aortic studies, renal artery duplex studies, iliocaval duplex studies, mesenteric duplex studies, plethysmography, and ankle-brachial index studies.
  • Adhering to NYU protocols as well as IAC and ACR standards for all studies.
  • Ensuring patient comfort and privacy, identifying self to patient, verifying patient identity, and explaining procedures and equipment.
  • Creating preliminary reports based on scan completion, documenting scans according to departmental procedures, and entering/maintaining pertinent patient data.
  • Using good judgment to determine if a procedure is sufficient for proper diagnosis.
  • Utilizing highly technical equipment to perform ultrasound studies.
  • Alerting medical staff of abnormalities requiring immediate attention.
  • Comparing present echovascular studies to previous studies to monitor changes.
  • Assisting with maintaining accreditation compliance and documentation (IAC or ACR) and submitting appropriate studies for accreditation applications.
  • Potentially lifting, pushing, or moving patients and equipment over 150 pounds, with or without assistive devices.
  • Carrying out assignments within a realistic time frame.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
