About The Position

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a Per Diem Art Instructor for the Center for Women's Health. This role supports arts-based programming for adults, focusing on creative experiences that promote self-expression, engagement, reflection, and wellness. The instructor will provide art instruction, foster an inclusive environment, and collaborate with program leadership to deliver patient-centered creative programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or a related field with completion of a teacher preparation program (either as part of the degree or completed separately).
  • Prior experience as an Art Teacher.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of art techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to supervise group work.
  • Outstanding planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience facilitating arts-based programming in healthcare, wellness, community, or adult learning settings
  • Experience working with adult populations in group and/or one-on-one settings
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary or outpatient program environments
  • Experience with expressive arts approaches such as creative writing, storytelling, mindfulness-based arts engagement, music, or movement
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt programming for diverse participant needs and backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate arts-based lessons and creative programming for adults in accordance with program goals and learning objectives
  • Prepare materials, supplies, and program space in advance of each session
  • Provide appropriate instruction in art techniques and creative processes, which may include drawing, painting, collage, journaling, reflective writing, and other expressive arts activities aligned with department needs
  • Teach participants about art and its relationship to wellness in an engaging, inclusive, and accessible manner
  • Adapt instruction and activities to support adult participants with varied interests, abilities, and health-related experiences
  • Facilitate structured creative experiences that support engagement, reflection, communication, and self-expression within outpatient wellness programming
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and program leadership to support group-based programming, shared medical appointments, linked visits, and other department initiatives, as appropriate
  • Maintain program materials and monitor inventory; source art supplies as needed
  • Ensure that the classroom or program space is clean and organized after each lesson
  • Incorporate direct instruction, discussion, projects, and cooperative work to engage participants, keep sessions focused, and infuse a lasting desire to learn
  • Facilitate small group targeted instruction in different subjects as needed
  • Execute, distribute, and evaluate class satisfaction surveys
  • Keep attendee statistics
  • Participate in program planning and related departmental meetings, as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
