About The Position

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Per Diem Mammographer for their Cancer Center in Manhattan. This role is responsible for performing medically prescribed diagnostic mammographic and bone density procedures, ensuring patient safety, and serving as the primary point of contact for patients during their mammogram. The position operates under general direction.

Requirements

  • Certificate from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • New York State license or temporary permit to practice Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Advanced Certification in Mammography.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • College graduate.
  • Two years of experience in Mammographic procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital and radiology information systems (HIS/RIS) in accordance with HIPAA regulations, including selecting patient information, scheduling exams, and processing orders.
  • Verifies orders and processes them correctly within the HIS/RIS system.
  • Assesses patient information and status, following appropriate procedures.
  • Uses standard procedures to identify the correct patient.
  • Reviews patient requisitions to understand the required exam and confers with medical staff for clarification when necessary.
  • Demonstrates skill in equipment set-up, utilization, and maintenance, performing quality control checks.
  • Uses imaging and peripheral equipment safely and productively according to hospital, departmental, and manufacturer procedures.
  • Observes and reports equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate personnel of missing or damaged equipment.
  • Independently implements patient procedures according to departmental protocols and standards.
  • Explains procedures and equipment to patients clearly.
  • Solves problems that arise during patient examinations using technical knowledge and innovation.
  • Alters examinations to maximize information based on the patient's condition.
  • Confers with other technologists regarding previous approaches.
  • Follows accepted radiologic procedures and uses medical information to determine the required protocol for radiographic examinations.
  • Consults policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials to ensure actions conform to established protocols.
  • Follows special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitions.
  • Recognizes the need for and follows isolation precautions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
