Requirements

  • Certificate from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • New York State license or temporary permit to practice Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Advanced Certification in Mammography.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

  • Two years of experience in Mammographic procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performing medically prescribed diagnostic mammographic and bone density procedures.
  • Ensuring patient safety protocols are followed.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for patients during mammograms.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of hospital and radiology information systems (HIS/RIS) relevant to radiology.
  • Selecting appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Accessing patient information, scheduling exams, appointment times, exam types, and patient reports within the HIS/RIS system.
  • Verifying orders and processing them correctly according to departmental HIS/RIS procedures.
  • Assessing patient information and status to determine and follow appropriate procedures.
  • Using standard procedures to identify the correct patient.
  • Reviewing patient requisitions to understand the required exam and conferring with medical staff for clarification when needed.
  • Demonstrating skill in equipment set-up, utilization, and proper maintenance.
  • Performing visual and manual quality control checks of radiographic equipment.
  • Using imaging and peripheral equipment safely and productively according to hospital, departmental, and manufacturer procedures.
  • Observing and reporting any equipment malfunctions and notifying appropriate personnel of missing or damaged equipment.
  • Independently implementing patient procedures according to departmental protocols and standards.
  • Clearly explaining procedures and equipment to patients.
  • Solving problems that arise during patient examinations using technical knowledge and innovation.
  • Altering examinations to maximize information based on the patient's condition and conferring with other technologists about previous approaches.
  • Following accepted radiologic procedures and using medical information to determine the required protocol for radiographic examinations.
  • Consulting policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials to ensure actions conform to established protocols.
  • Following special instructions on radiographic requisitions.
  • Recognizing the need for and following isolation precautions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
