This role is for a purpose-driven and dedicated People & Culture Operations Coordinator who will be an integral part of the People and Culture (P&C) team. The coordinator will optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of P&C processes and service delivery, positively impacting the employee experience throughout the employee life cycle. Reporting to the Supervisor-Generalist, People & Culture, this role provides direct support to YSM staff in various HR areas, including recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, benefits administration, training and development, and legislative compliance.

Requirements

  • College diploma or university degree in HR Management, Business Administration or Psychology
  • 2-3 years’ solid HR experience
  • Demonstrated interest in HR, evidenced by relevant certifications or active participation in professional associations; CHRP-designated or in progress a strong asset
  • Working knowledge of the HR management function and processes
  • Working familiarity of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Ontario Health and Safety Act, and Ontario Human Rights legislation
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated proactive and effective client service orientation
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive issues with confidentiality, tact, diplomacy, empathy and compassion
  • Strong project coordination and execution skills
  • Ability to work effectively - both independently and within a team environment - and with good time management to successfully manage multiple priorities
  • Keen attention to detail with an eye for accuracy and completeness of data or documentation
  • Strong initiative with the ability to learn new skills and adapt to changing environment and technology
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of equity, inclusion and diversity
  • Proficiency with MS Office, BambooHR (or other HRIS systems), G-Suite and tools/apps for collaboration
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of YSM

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates staff onboarding, including pre-employment background checks
  • Liaises with and supports hiring managers in the screening and selection of potential talent, including job postings, screening calls and reference checking
  • Liaises with key departmental staff regarding staff onboarding, offboarding and other staff processes
  • Facilitates staff comprehension of, and adherence to P&C policies and procedures in compliance with relevant employment legislation, escalating unique or complex inquiries to senior-level members of the P&C team
  • Provides technical support to staff regarding YSM’s HR system (BambooHR)
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date HR documentation and data, including benefits records, employee files and tracking systems
  • Drafts P&C communications and documentation such as employment contracts
  • Delivers benefits orientation sessions for new staff
  • Processes benefits enrolments, coverage changes, and terminations while liaising with insurance providers
  • Coordinates P&C staff events (e.g. training, staff recognition awards, new staff consecration) and related activities such as feedback surveys
  • Provides support in advancing YSM’s values, diversity, equity and inclusion principles, and Biblical foundations
  • Creates, reviews and edits a variety of P&C confidential materials, conducts research, and exercises sound judgment in handling confidential information
  • Serves as P&C representative on the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Supports P&C projects and initiatives
