About The Position

Open Door Group (ODG), a mission-driven non-profit organization serving communities across British Columbia and Alberta, is looking for a People & Culture Business Partner to join our team! This role is a strategic, collaborative, and forward-thinking People & Culture Business Partner to support our growing team in Alberta and help strengthen our ability to deliver exceptional employment services to the people and communities we serve. Reporting to the Director of People & Culture, this role is a trusted advisor to leaders across Alberta, partnering with them to build engaged teams, develop leadership capability, and navigate complex people and organizational challenges. By aligning workforce decisions with organizational strategy and service delivery priorities, you'll help create the conditions that enable employees to do their best work and deliver meaningful outcomes for clients. Working closely with leaders, you will provide strategic advice, identify opportunities and risks, strengthen organizational capability, and help shape workforce practices that support sustainable growth, innovation, and high-quality service delivery. You'll contribute to initiatives such as workforce planning, organizational design, policy development, employee relations, leadership development, and organizational change. This role goes beyond traditional Human Resources. It connects people, strategy, and organizational performance—helping leaders anticipate future workforce needs, respond to changing client, community, and funding environments, and build an organization that continues to evolve in support of its mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience in advisory or business partner roles.
  • Demonstrated experience advising leaders on complex employee relations, workforce planning, organizational change, and policy interpretation.
  • Experience interpreting and applying employment legislation principles.
  • Experience supporting workplace accommodations, performance management, and organizational development initiatives.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as required.
  • Occasional travel within Alberta will be required.
  • Required to complete and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.
  • Valid Drivers License and satisfactory Drivers Abstract
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • Excellent consultation, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence decision-making through trusted partnerships and sound professional judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusted partnerships with leaders to understand their services, operational priorities, workforce needs, and future direction.
  • Provide strategic advice that supports effective leadership, organizational performance, and high-quality client service.
  • Identify workforce trends, organizational risks, and opportunities that influence service delivery and long-term organizational success.
  • Support leaders in making informed people and organizational decisions through thoughtful consultation, coaching, and constructive challenge.
  • Connect day-to-day workforce decisions to long-term organizational capability and strategic priorities.
  • Partner with leaders to anticipate workforce needs and develop strategies that strengthen organizational capability.
  • Advise on organizational design, role development, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Support recruitment planning, talent development, and internal career pathways.
  • Assess the workforce implications of organizational growth, new services, funding opportunities, and operational change.
  • Help leaders design effective ways of working that improve capacity, collaboration, and service delivery.
  • Coach leaders through employee relations, performance management, workplace accommodations, conflict resolution, and other complex workplace matters.
  • Provide guidance on employment legislation, workplace investigations, respectful workplaces, and psychological health and safety.
  • Support leaders in building inclusive, engaged, and high-performing teams.
  • Promote equitable, accessible, and inclusive workplace practices that reflect Open Door Group's values.
  • Identify recurring workforce issues and recommend organizational improvements that strengthen leadership capability and employee experience.
  • Support policy development, organizational initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Monitor emerging workforce, technology, legislative, and sector trends and assess their impact on the organization.
  • Partner across departments to identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness through innovation, data, technology, and new ways of working.
  • Develop practical tools, resources, and guidance that build leadership capability and improve organizational consistency.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, learning-oriented People & Culture team focused on organizational excellence.
