About The Position

The People and Culture Generalist delivers practical HR support to Jambalaya Group’s clients. The initial focus is completing compensation and benefits research, role descriptions, employee handbooks, career development materials, and responsive support for day-to-day employee and workplace questions. The position works closely with the Head of Human Capital to understand client needs, prepare recommendations and deliverables, and coordinate implementation. Relationship building, careful listening, sound judgment, and dependable follow-through are central to the role. As experience and familiarity with Jambalaya Group’s consulting approach develop, the specialist will assume greater responsibility for supporting smaller fractional HR engagements. The position also provides backup to the recruiting team.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of HR experience, with exposure and hands-on experience across several areas including compensation, benefits, employee policies and handbooks, performance management, employee relations, and recruiting.
  • A consulting mindset and the ability to work with multiple clients simultaneously, listen carefully, ask strong questions, assess what is needed, and provide sound recommendations.
  • Strong judgment and discernment, including the ability to take direction, understand the desired outcome, and adapt the approach appropriately to different clients and situations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with business owners, leaders, employees, and teammates with different personalities, perspectives, and communication styles.
  • Business acumen and an interest in understanding how people decisions connect to organizational structure, capacity, growth, leadership, and business performance.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and problem-solving. Not every client issue arrives neatly defined, and you should enjoy helping make sense of what is happening and determining a path forward.
  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication and the ability to turn complex information into understandable recommendations and practical next steps.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Initiative and self-management. Once trained, you see what needs to happen, take ownership, follow through, and raise your hand early when something needs attention.
  • The ability to take feedback and direction well, adjust quickly, and continue learning without becoming defensive.
  • Discretion with confidential information and good judgment about when to independently move something forward and when to seek additional guidance.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for using AI as part of how you work, with experience using AI tools to improve thinking, research, drafting, presentations, recommendations, templates, and efficiency.
  • Energy, adaptability, curiosity, and a genuine interest in people.
