About The Position

The Penetrant Line Operator is responsible for completing all steps necessary for the application of fluorescent penetrant on castings to prepare them for the fluorescent penetrant inspection process and evaluation. This role involves meticulous attention to detail in cleaning, applying chemicals, and ensuring the castings are ready for inspection.

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or GED (necessary for NDT certification).
  • Ability to write, and read and follow specifications on Tech Cards.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing twenty to forty pounds and occasionally up to eighty pounds.
  • Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes and other elements for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all steps in the preparation and application of penetrant to castings.
  • Visually inspect castings for surface dirt and clean/degrease as necessary.
  • Chemically etch specific castings by local or swab etching.
  • Neutralize parts with water and dry them.
  • Apply fluorescent penetrant liquid using a hand-held, electro-static sprayer.
  • Ensure penetrant is absorbed for the specified time.
  • Wash castings to remove penetrant and pre-dry them with fans.
  • Place castings in drying cabinets and then in a developing cabinet for automatic application of powdered developer.
  • Visually inspect castings after the process and clean/degrease as needed.
  • Wear protective gear during line operation.
  • Maintain penetrant line equipment and work area in good working order.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Keep the work area and materials clean and orderly.
  • Take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Complete logs and records.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
