About The Position

The mission of this role is to clean the surfaces of large castings using air-propelled sand or shot in a walk-in booth. The Sandblaster prepares casting surfaces for further cleaning, chemical milling, inspection, or gate removal, while the Shotblaster removes shell materials. This position requires adherence to production and quality standards, as well as safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Cleaning and blasting skills as demonstrated by the competent performance of all Sandblaster and Shotblaster duties are preferred OR An equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to follow instructions and read Technique Cards or routers.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction).
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must be able to work under conditions requiring respiratory protection if applicable.
  • Facial hair, temple pieces on glasses, or other items that interfere with the face-to-face piece seal of a tight-fitting respirator are not permitted if a tight-fitting respirator is required.

Responsibilities

  • Verify lot, part identification, and operation number.
  • Load castings into the walk-in cabinet manually or with a hoist.
  • Mask tooling points as needed.
  • Sand or shot blast parts in the cabinet by directing hand-held nozzles, moving the nozzle across the surface or parts, and avoiding excessive metal removal.
  • Remove all sand or shot from part cavities to ensure clean parts for subsequent operations.
  • Visually inspect blasted parts to verify material removal and uniform color.
  • Remove castings from the walk-in cabinet and place them on pallets.
  • Modify shotblast pipe as necessary (Walk-in Shotblasters only).
  • Manually push sand into the grate to circulate.
  • Perform minor equipment maintenance, including changing hoses and nozzles.
  • Check equipment for leaks and clogs.
  • Restock the cabinet with sand or shot and order materials as needed.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • May be required to work with hazardous waste.
  • Meet all production and quality standards.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
