About The Position

Peer Support Specialists engage, inspire, and facilitate meaningful conversations with members served to help them explore, create, and meet their own recovery goals. They provide consultation to the team to promote and reinforce Telecare’s Recovery Culture, as defined by the Telecare Recovery Centered Clinical System (RCCS), ensuring each member’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into services and self-help programming. Additionally, Peer Support Specialists respond to critical situations with high-level engagement and de-escalation skills to support a least restrictive environment for individuals experiencing a mental health/addiction emergency. The Santa Cruz County Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF) is a 16-bed locked acute psychiatric inpatient program for adults aged 18+, diagnosed with serious mental illness (SMI), experiencing a mental health emergency and requiring intensive treatment and support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Peer Certification must be maintained throughout employment
  • California: Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification through CalMHSA must be obtained within 120 days of your date of hire and maintained throughout employment. Failure to obtain certification within this period will result in separation with the company.
  • Experience as a beneficiary of the Behavioral Health system of care

Responsibilities

  • Engage, inspire, and facilitate meaningful conversations with members served that assist the person to explore, create, and meet their own recovery goals.
  • Provide consultation to the team to promote and reinforce Telecare’s Recovery Culture as defined by the Telecare Recovery Centered Clinical System (RCCS), in which each member’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into services and self-help programming.
  • Respond to critical situations with high level engagement and de-escalation skills which support a least restrictive environment for individuals experiencing an emergency related to a mental health/addiction challenge.
