Peer Support Specialist
About The Position
Peer Support Specialists are individuals in a peer-designated role who provide direct services, drawing from their personal experience of recovery from mental health, substance use, or trauma conditions. They receive specialized training and supervision to guide and support others facing similar challenges towards increased wellness. This role involves a personal commitment to one's own recovery, maintaining that recovery over time, and utilizing specialized training to work in mutuality with others, sharing learned insights in an inspirational manner. Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma/GED
- A mental health/SUD lived experience
- 80-hour Peer Support Learning or equivalent – successfully completed within 90 days of hire or has taken the training within 2 years of hire
- Has current techniques of behavioral intervention training within six (6) months of hire
Responsibilities
- Providing direct services with a personal experience of recovery from mental health, substance use, or trauma conditions
- Guiding and supporting others who are experiencing similar mental health, substance use, or trauma issues toward increased wellness
- Sharing what he or she has learned about recovery in an inspirational way
