About The Position

The Peer Support Specialist at the Oasis Clubhouse uses their own lived experience with mental health challenges and recovery to inspire, support, and mentor adult Clubhouse members (ages 18 and older). Working side-by-side with members within the "Work-Ordered Day," this role blends peer-run support principles with Clubhouse International Standards to promote community integration, employment, and personal growth.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Strong understanding of the psychiatric recovery model, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction.
  • Excellent interpersonal, active listening, and boundaries management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • California Certified Peer Support Specialist (Medi-Cal) highly preferred at hire, or a commitment to complete certification within a designated timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a colleague alongside Clubhouse members to complete the daily tasks required to run the Clubhouse units (e.g., culinary, administration, media, outreach).
  • Fully participate in all Clubhouse activities, avoiding a traditional "staff vs. client" dynamic, and helping ensure adherence to Clubhouse International Standards.
  • Encourage member leadership in consensus-based decision-making meetings, daily planning sessions, and community governance.
  • Safely and effectively share personal recovery stories to model hope, self-advocacy, and a pathway to a fulfilling life.
  • Help members define their own recovery, wellness, and lifestyle goals using strength-based strategies.
  • Assist members in understanding, accessing, and self-navigating public transit, healthcare systems, housing resources, and social entitlements across San Diego County.
  • Assist members on Transitional, Supported, and Independent Employment job sites, which may include providing job coaching and coverage as needed.
  • Support members who are pursuing GED tracks, community college classes, or vocational training.
  • Participate in the Clubhouse "reach-out" system, checking on members who are absent, hospitalized, or experiencing a crisis to reduce isolation.
  • Complete daily service logs and required contract tracking in alignment with San Diego County Behavioral Health Services (BHS) and Medi-Cal standards.
  • Attend staff meetings, member-staff meetings, and programmatic training sessions, contributing a distinct peer-recovery perspective.
