Peer Support Specialists are people in a peer-designated role providing direct services with a personal experience of recovery from mental health, substance use, or trauma conditions who receive specialized training and supervision to guide and support others who are experiencing similar mental health, substance use, or trauma issues toward increased wellness. A Peer Support Specialist is an individual who has made a personal commitment to his or her own recovery, has maintained that recovery over a period of time, has taken the 80-hour Peer Support Learning training (or equivalent) to work in mutuality with others, and is willing to share what he or she has learned about recovery in an inspirational way. Crestwood has been committed to creating innovative recovery programs and developing compassionate communities that support each client in their journey. Our model of care focuses on a personal and self-directed process that empowers the people we serve and helps them to develop the skills to thrive!
