Peer Specialists help make Mobile Crisis Intervention Services welcoming, comfortable, supportive, and responsive to individuals who use them and their families. Drawing on personal experience and knowledge of navigating the broader care system, they provide support, information, and assistance connecting with community-based resources and services. They convey hope and provide psychoeducation about recovery, rehabilitation, and crisis self-management. They also help arrange services after the Mobile Crisis Intervention and support individuals and families through the transition to follow-up care. Peer Specialist staff receive training in recovery-focused peer support for Substance Use Disorders and assist with interventions for individuals and families experiencing crises related to substance use. They explain how to access services, describe available self-help resources, and follow up with people who may or may not be ready to accept help at initial contact. The ideal candidate is interested in working with both mental health and substance use recovery populations.
