About The Position

The Peer Specialist works as a member of the clinical and therapeutic team, under the direction of the program director. The primary responsibility of the Peer specialist is to assist with linkage to mental health treatment and supportive services for adults with severe mental illnesses who are currently receiving services in the Program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity

Responsibilities

  • Performs as a role model providing consumers with resource information that will help facilitate community functioning and promote and support recovery and resiliency behaviors.
  • Promotes and supports positive communication amongst peers and peers with staff.
  • Provides peer-to-peer educational guidance and other consumer driven activities.
  • Assists person with developing and achieving their goals.
  • Reports to Program Director for supervision.
  • Actively participates in meetings at program. Possesses ability to work with individuals in the inpatient and outpatient setting to assist them to develop skills necessary to work on recovery goals.
  • Assists peer members to remain stable and maintain their recovery. (Activities to include but not limited to conducting WRAP training and peer support group).
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
