About The Position

The position provides expertise grounded in first-hand knowledge and experience of living with mental illness or concurrent disorder, psychosocial-related issues, and recovery. The Peer Specialist facilitates and supports the delivery of recovery-oriented community based and client-centered services within a multidisciplinary team including but not limited to case management supports, delivery of services defined by an established plan of care, supporting clients through lived experience, and advocacy.

Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • One year working experience with adults with mental illness.
  • Certification with Ontario Peer Development Initiative or willingness to acquire certification
  • One year personal experience in the mental health system as a consumer/ survivor/ or family member
  • Knowledge of Indigenous populations, cultural sensitivity and willingness to engage in cultural training.
  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, the Internet, and data management software
  • A willingness to serve clients within the communities of the District of Muskoka and Parry Sound
  • A valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s license and a safe and reliable means of transportation
  • Qualified consumers/survivors and/or family members are encouraged to apply

Nice To Haves

  • Awareness and application of Psychosocial Interventions for psychosis an asset.
  • Experience providing case management services to those experiencing mental illness.
  • Familiarity with assertive community treatment and intensive case management models and willingness to expand knowledge.
  • A commitment to the rights of those experiencing mental illness/addictions
  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and languages considered an asset
  • Bilingual in French/English language considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • As a member of a multidisciplinary team and with strong clinical-case management abilities, provide recovery-oriented supports to clients living with mental health and addictions needs in a community setting.
  • Ability to contribute as an effective part of a multidisciplinary team and engage in team meetings and daily huddles.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively within a team environment in a rural setting
