About The Position

This position is funded through the ED Bridge Peer Expansion Grant. Provide peer recovery services to individuals and groups within Carilion Clinics inpatient settings outpatient clinics, emergency departments and throughout the surrounding communities. Maintain necessary documentation, patient health records and reports and records in appropriate files and database(s). Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from utilizing knowledge of the stages of change and the recovery processes. Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering persons goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff, and other relevant stakeholders. Maintain contact by phone with recovering person after they leave the program to ensure their ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the agency if needed. Attend periodic meetings for identified service lines, treatment professionals, community coalitions or outreach activities as necessary. Provide Crisis Intervention Support as needed and as is defined within the Peer Recovery Specialist Scope of Practice. Provide both group and individual recovery coaching to individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health Peer Recovery Specialist 72-hour Training.
  • Be in recovery from a mental illness and/or substance use disorder for two or more years.
  • Must be comfortable with disclosure of own recovery story and willing to use it within the Peer Recovery Special Ethical Guidelines
