Provides direct service to clients in their homes, assisting with training in skills of daily living. Lived experience as a consumer of mental health, substance use, and/or homeless services is required. The Peer Program Specialist will teach skills for maintaining personal hygiene, laundry, and apartment cleaning. They will also monitor the overall maintenance of apartments and alert the program director of any maintenance problems. Additionally, they will teach skills for budgeting, shopping, meal planning, preparation, and clean-up, as well as self-preservation. The role involves monitoring living units for safety and cleanliness, administering the client cooking safety test, and monitoring, documenting, and teaching self-administration of medication according to program policy. The specialist will report incidents or behavioral changes in residents to their supervisor, teach travel skills, and escort clients where needed. They will also facilitate/co-facilitate groups as requested and document services rendered and client progress in a timely manner. The position supports building self-advocacy skills to effectively communicate with the client's supports and treatment team, and aids in recovery skill-building goals to decrease the frequency of contact with emergency services. The role also includes attending training and performing other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
