About The Position

Peer Navigators will serve as a partner on the multidisciplinary service team at each Center of Reentry Excellence (CORE) worksite. Peer Navigators must have direct lived experience with the criminal justice system or behavioral health system. Graduates of Alameda County Probation Department’s contracted Peer Mentorship program, or other local programs designed to develop the skills needed to provide successful peer support to individuals navigating public health or community supervision systems may be given special consideration for this position.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal flexibility, resourcefulness and teamwork; must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Mentoring, motivating and coaching Members receiving CORE services.
  • Problem solving, effective reentry planning, and individualized service coordination.
  • Proficient use of technology to track service delivery data, collaborate with others, and communicate important information.
  • Direct lived experience with the criminal justice system or behavioral health system.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support to CORE Members by helping them navigate local resources that are available to them.
  • Support CORE staff with activities related to new Member enrollment and orientations.
  • Support each CORE Member’s reentry success by helping them navigate the internal and external resources available to them.
  • Use their lived experience to connect with Members and encourage Member engagement with needed resources.
  • Help with the recruitment of new Members and the identification of Members for the CORE Ambassador role.
  • Provide information to community members and partners visiting a CORE site or attending a CORE outreach event.
  • Support CORE staff in direct service delivery by providing a direct connection to available resources and co-facilitating classes, workshops, and other relevant group activities.
  • Contributing program suggestions, feedback, and ideas to the multidisciplinary team to improve the quality of CORE service delivery and the experience of Members receiving services.
