About The Position

New Freedom is a dynamic, compassionate, and peer-driven community dedicated to empowering justice-involved and formerly incarcerated individuals to successfully rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. Our approach blends empathy with action—offering tools, mentorship, and unwavering support that transforms lives, families, and communities. The Peer Coach Driver will function as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills. They will serve as an advocate, providing supportive information and peer support for members in outpatient and inpatient settings. Using their recovery and/or work-related experience, the Peer Coach Driver performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages with regards to regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. Recovery resources such as booklets, videos and other materials will be utilized by the Peer Coach Driver in the provision of services, including driving the client to supportive services when requested by management.

Requirements

  • Competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills
  • Recovery and/or work-related experience
  • Ability to provide transportation for members
  • Ensure vehicle safety, cleanliness, and compliance with all documentation and driving requirements
  • Maintain safety for both members and staff
  • De-escalate challenging situations
  • Ensure the secure handling of sensitive documents
  • Complete all required documentation
  • Meet performance expectations
  • Actively participate in supervision, training, and continuing education

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and document member behavior, mood changes, and concerns, and report significant observations to mental health professionals
  • Assist members in identifying goals, developing recovery plans, and collaborating with treatment teams to support self-directed recovery
  • Facilitate and encourage participation in individual and group sessions focused on managing negative self-talk, overcoming fears, and building peer support
  • Support the development of daily living, social, and vocational skills to promote successful community re-entry and job readiness
  • Provide transportation for members as assigned, ensuring vehicle safety, cleanliness, and compliance with all documentation and driving requirements
  • Maintain safety for both members and staff, de-escalate challenging situations, and ensure the secure handling of sensitive documents
  • Collaborate with staff across departments and assist with administrative, front desk, and in-house or offsite member support as needed
  • Complete all required documentation, meet performance expectations, and actively participate in supervision, training, and continuing education
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support our mission.
