About The Position

Project Restore Brownsville is a community-based violence intervention and prevention initiative designed to support young people at elevated risk of involvement in gun violence. The program combines intensive case management, mentoring, trauma informed group work, and workforce development opportunities to stabilize participants, reduce violent behavior, and support long-term positive outcomes. Project Restore operates as an enhancement of existing BIVO work, strengthening continuity of care, supervision, and participant engagement across systems. The person filling this position is expected, under close supervision, to engage directly with Project Restore Brownsville participants to provide consistent support, mentorship, and advocacy. The Peer Advocate builds trust with participants, supports engagement in program activities, and reinforces positive decision-making by drawing on lived experience, strong community knowledge, and ongoing supervision. Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures. Comply with all Federal, State, City, and CAMBA security and privacy policies to protect the confidentiality of individual health information. Ensure the safety and security of all participants by following program protocols and procedures, including supervision, accident, and incident reporting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
  • Lived experience relevant to the population served, with demonstrated personal stability and readiness to serve in a helping role.
  • Prior experience working with youth, young adults, or community-based programs preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with system-impacted youth.
  • Ability to follow supervision, maintain boundaries, and document work accurately.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort using data systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain consistent, trust-based relationships with assigned Project Restore participants.
  • Attend all Inside Circle, Life Skills, group sessions, and other workshops for their respective groups.
  • Support participant engagement in case management, mentoring, group sessions, internships, and other program activities.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with participants in person and in the community, as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Assist participants in navigating appointments, court obligations, employment opportunities, and service referrals.
  • Reach out to prospective participants identified through KCDA referral lists.
  • Conduct canvassing, engage with youth and young adults who may be eligible for Project Restore.
  • Support intake follow-up by maintaining contact and encouraging enrollment in Project Restore.
  • Reinforce program expectations, accountability, and pro-social behavior through ongoing engagement.
  • Support de-escalation and conflict mediation efforts under supervision, consistent with program protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with Case Managers, Credible Mentors, and clinical staff to support participant goals.
  • Document participant interactions, progress, and concerns accurately and timely in required systems.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and supervision sessions.
  • Support group activities, workshops, and events as assigned.
  • Assist with outreach and re-engagement efforts for participants who are disengaged or at risk of disengagement.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, boundaries, and accountability.
  • Support alignment between Project Restore and BIVO activities to ensure continuity of care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
