About The Position

Project Restore Brownsville is a community-based violence intervention and prevention initiative designed to support young people at elevated risk of involvement in gun violence. The program combines intensive case management, mentoring, trauma informed group work, and workforce development opportunities to stabilize participants, reduce violent behavior, and support long-term positive outcomes. Project Restore operates as an enhancement of existing BIVO work, strengthening continuity of care, supervision, and participant engagement across systems. Position Overview: What The Client Advocate I Does: The person filling this position is expected, under close supervision, to provide consistent mentorship and support to Project Restore Brownsville participants. The Client Advocate uses lived experience, strong community knowledge, and structured engagement to support participant accountability, reduce risk of retaliation, and reinforce positive decision-making. This role requires availability, reliability, and close coordination with program staff to meet participant needs. Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures. Comply with all Federal, State, City, and CAMBA security and privacy policies to protect the confidentiality of individual health information. Ensure the safety and security of all participants by following program protocols and procedures, including supervision, accident and incident reporting. Build and maintain consistent, trust-based relationships with assigned Project Restore participants. Build consistent, trust-based mentoring relationships with assigned participants. Maintain regular, in-person contact with participants in the community and at program sites. Provide guidance, accountability, and support focused on reducing involvement in violence and risky behavior. Support participants during critical moments, including court appearances, appointments, and crisis situations, as directed. Assist in de-escalation and violence interruption efforts under supervision and in coordination with program staff. Collaborate with Case Managers, Peer Advocates, and clinical staff to support individualized participant plans. Participate in group sessions, workshops, and restorative or trauma-informed activities as assigned. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of participant interactions and observations. Attend required supervision, team meetings, and training sessions. Support outreach and re-engagement efforts for participants who are disengaged or at risk. Reinforce program expectations, boundaries, and accountability. Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, consistency, and respect. Support alignment between Project Restore and BIVO activities to ensure continuity of care. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Lived experience relevant to the population served, with demonstrated personal stability and credibility in the community.
  • Prior experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting youth or young adults preferred.
  • Ability to build trust, maintain boundaries, and follow supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to document work accurately and timely.
  • If off-site or school-based, may require: Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance; doctor's note certifying good health; NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services Sex Offender Registry clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting youth or young adults preferred.
