About The Position

The Physician provides primary, urgent, or specialty medical care to patients at the NEMS clinic and performs related duties. The role includes developing and implementing patient care plans, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries, and ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests. Physicians may hospitalize NEMS patients and serve as their attending physicians. They also provide on-call coverage when the clinic is closed and work at the Saturday clinic on a rotational basis. The position emphasizes preventive care, appropriate and cost-efficient use of diagnostic and treatment resources, coordination with consulting physicians and other care-team members, and continuity of care for patients referred to specialists. The physician may help train staff and students, contribute to health education materials and programs, and supervise mid-level providers such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants. Full-time physicians are generally required to maintain hospital privileges; this may include emergency room and inpatient coverage for non-NEMS patients if required by the hospital.
