About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Pediatrician for their Eating Disorders Program. This role involves providing comprehensive medical assessments, recommendations, and follow-up appointments for clients aged 12-19 who are active in the program. The pediatrician will act as a consult physician, determine shared care follow-up with community primary care providers, and document progress. They will liaise with community primary care providers to ensure supportive shared care and attend weekly triage meetings for client treatment planning. The position also includes attending client family meetings as needed, supporting referrals to tertiary programs, and participating in the training and education of allied health professionals. Active participation in academic activities and clinical care is expected, along with a good knowledge of community resources. The service operates within a client and family-centered recovery model, providing outpatient support and access to treatments for youth and adults with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and related eating disorders. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, psychologists, nurses, registered clinical counselors, social workers, and occupational therapists.

Requirements

  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) - Mandatory
  • A Medical Degree and eligibility for Full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the UBC Faculty of Medicine
  • Demonstrated ability working as a member of an interdisciplinary mental health team.
  • A commitment to participate in new methods in health care improvement and delivery.
  • Candidates must meet the credentialing requirements of Vancouver Coastal Health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical assessments with recommendations and follow-up appointments for clients active in the program.

  • Determine shared care follow-up with community primary care providers.
  • Document assessment and follow-up progress notes.
  • Liaise directly with community primary care providers as needed to ensure supportive shared care.
  • Attend weekly triage meetings to discuss client treatment planning.
  • Attend client family meetings as needed.
  • Support referrals to tertiary programs.
  • Participate in the training and education of other allied health professionals.
  • Actively participate in academic activities and clinical care.
  • Maintain a good knowledge of community resources.
