About The Position

CHOC Specialists, a private pediatric subspecialty group, is seeking a board-certified/eligible pediatric surgeon to join the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC) and the Department of Surgery at the University of California Irvine. This position is at the assistant or associate professor level and requires a strong interest in trauma/critical care research. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership for the division’s growing trauma program with a potential to become the pediatric trauma director. The division currently has 8 surgeons and 5 nurse practitioners and is experiencing rapid growth, serving a large patient population. The call schedule and working environment are well-balanced. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical and leadership skills and the ability to connect meaningfully with hospital administration, university leadership, and local trauma partners. Academic and research interest in pediatric trauma and critical care is required, with support from CHOC Children’s Hospital, including a full-time clinical research coordinator and a PhD-level biostatistician. Research support is negotiable based on candidate experience and needs. Opportunities for teaching medical students, NP/PA students, pediatric residents, and general surgery residents are available. Applicants must possess or be eligible for a CA medical license and have a special interest in trauma. Salary, benefits, and academic range are competitive and commensurate with experience. While the primary focus is cultivating the trauma program, the surgeon will also share general pediatric surgery responsibilities, including minimally invasive surgery, cancer surgery, neonatal surgery, non-cardiac thoracic surgery, GI surgery, bariatric, oncology, and endocrine surgery. The division is also in the process of establishing an ACGME-accredited fellowship in pediatric surgery. Successful candidates will be committed to scholarly activity in basic or clinical/translational research through the University of California Irvine Department of Surgery, with protected research time allocated based on research activities and academic accomplishments. Rate of pay is determined by various factors including knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, and position requirements.
