About The Position

CHOC Specialists, part of Rady Children’s Health, is seeking a board-certified pediatric surgeon to join the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Rady’s Children’s Health Orange County and the Department of Surgery at the University of California Irvine, as their Trauma Medical Director. The division is looking for an applicant with experience and/or leadership in pediatric trauma/critical care. The practice is growing rapidly and serves a large patient population, seeing 800 trauma cases annually in their Pediatric Level I Trauma department. The call schedule and working environment are well-balanced. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to connect meaningfully with hospital administration, university leadership, and local trauma partners. Academic and research interest in pediatric trauma and critical care is required, with support from CHOC including a full-time clinical research coordinator and a PhD-level biostatistician. Additional research support is negotiable. There are numerous teaching opportunities, including ACGME-accredited pediatric surgery fellows, general surgery and pediatric residents, medical students, and NP/PA students. Applicants must be eligible for an unrestricted CA medical license and have a special interest in trauma. While the primary focus is leading the trauma program, the surgeon will also share general pediatric surgery patient care responsibilities, including minimally invasive surgery, cancer surgery, neonatal surgery, general pediatric surgery, non-cardiac thoracic surgery, GI surgery, and oncology surgery. Successful candidates will be committed to scholarly activity that advances surgical research through a basic or clinical/translational research track at the University of California Irvine Department of Surgery. Protected research time will be allocated based on the candidate’s research activities and academic record. Requirements

  • Board-certified pediatric surgeon.
