About The Position

Marcus Autism Center is seeking a pediatric psychologist specializing in Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) for medically complex children and children with autism. This role focuses on clinical care, case management, and supervision of trainees and staff in intensive day treatment and outpatient programs. The position involves providing 1:1 intervention, maintaining a caseload, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team including Nutrition, Speech Language Pathology, Medicine, Occupational Therapy, and Care Coordination. Opportunities for research are also available. The Emory + Children’s Pediatric Institute is an affiliation between Emory University and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, dedicated to improving children's lives through clinical care, research, and education.

Requirements

  • PhD or PsyD
  • License-eligible or licensed to practice as psychologist in the state of Georgia.
  • Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families and as a team member
  • Four years of experience in direct assessment and care of pediatric patients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting
  • Experience in conducting clinical supervision
  • Proficient in neuropsychological and/or psychological assessments and/or treatments of children, adolescents, and young adults
  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship
  • Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship

  • Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D)
  • Experience in providing family therapy/counseling
  • Experience in writing and research

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and develops assessments and/or treatments for specialty pediatric population.
  • Assists with translation of findings into therapeutic approaches which can be utilized by a transdisciplinary or interdisciplinary team.
  • May supervise students/fellows, pre-doctoral interns, and/or postdoctoral fellows.
  • Cooperates and collaborates with parents, caretakers, and other professionals to meet the total needs of the patient and family.
  • Counsels and educates families.
  • Assists with the coordination of a clinical database and promotes research.
  • Provides effective delivery of services appropriate to the patient’s specific needs and severity level of disability or impairment.
  • Develops and successfully implements assessment standards and treatment plans that support established goals.
  • Documents weekly/monthly treatment notes and assessment reports following established standards.
  • Completes discharge and follows up according to departmental standards.
  • Participates in and incorporates quality improvement and research findings into practice.
  • Demonstrates and practices family-centered care.
  • Includes family/caregiver participation in all phases of the patient’s program.
  • Communicates relevant information at the patient/family level of understanding.
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family.
  • Completes necessary documentation and ensures communication in a timely manner to facilitate patient care and appropriate reimbursement.
  • Provides supervision as appropriate to allied health providers, fellows, interns, psychometrists, students and other staff as assigned.
  • Actively support research activities underway in the Multidisciplinary Feeding Program.
  • Seek additional opportunities to support and lead research efforts as time and interest allow.
  • Provides direct supervision for trainees, ensuring adequate opportunities for training through teaching, patient contact, case review and research.
  • Participates in meetings/activities as required to support operations of the clinical area and the organization overall.
  • Participates in activities that enhance professional development.
  • Completes and maintains any additional specialty training/certifications as required by the assigned area.
  • Participate in the development of goals for the department including research, quality and customer service initiatives.
  • Integrates infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development, including referral to outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Provides appropriate assessment and treatment, including modifications for special population(s).
  • Completes discharge and follows up according to departmental standards, including liaison services to patient’s local school systems to assist with school re-entry and consultation for individual education program development as appropriate.
  • Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
  • Evaluates patient and family psychosocial needs and provides appropriate direction to the team to meet these needs.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional growth and improvement, meeting required continuing education standards.
  • Supports and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
