About The Position

The Division of Pediatric Psychology and Neuropsychology at Levine Children’s Hospital is recruiting a full-time Pediatric Psychologist to provide evidence-based consultation-liaison, assessment, and intervention services to pediatric patients and their families receiving care at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Congenital Heart Center and those admitted to our inpatient Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and progressive cardiology unit. The congenital heart center serves a diverse patient population including patients with congenital heart defects, arrythmias, genetic heart conditions, heart failure, transplant, and preventative cardiology. Responsibilities will include provision of individual and family psychotherapy, brief consultation-liaison services in the inpatient setting, brief psychosocial assessments in multidisciplinary clinics, and care coordination with an interdisciplinary team. There may be opportunities for neurodevelopmental assessment. Psychologists at Levine Children’s also participate in the training of psychology practicum students and other trainees. Clinical research, quality improvement projects, and new program development are encouraged. This position is eligible for a faculty appointment through the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, with rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from, an APA approved training program required
  • License eligible or currently licensed as a Licensed Practicing Psychologist from the N.C. State Board of Examiners of Practicing Psychologists required
  • BLS required per policy guidelines
  • PhD or PsyD from an APA/CPA-accredited program
  • Must have completed a child clinical or pediatric psychology internship
  • Applicants should be licensed or license-eligible in North Carolina prior to employment

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric psychology fellowship training
  • Experience working in pediatric inpatient hospital settings is strongly preferred
  • Encouraged to pursue PSYPACT licensure

Responsibilities

  • Provision of individual and family psychotherapy
  • Brief consultation-liaison services in the inpatient setting

  • Conducts assessments based on clinical interview, presenting information and clinical standards of program.
  • Formulates an appropriate diagnosis using standards established in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
  • Writes appropriate treatment plans according to patient diagnosis, age and clinical presentation.
  • Collaborates with appropriate guardians to insure effective service delivery.
  • Provides clinical supervision of Psychologist I, predoctoral interns and/or graduate practicum students in the practice of psychology.
  • Conducts forensic evaluations and provides court testimony as an expert witness when directed.
  • Selects, administers, and interprets psychological instruments, including a written report on psychological evaluation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of various treatment modalities and theoretical applications based on current clinical standards.
  • Writes appropriate discharge plans based on individual needs of client and follows through with termination process.
  • Manages clients in crisis utilizing appropriate skills and assessment.
