About The Position

Children’s Wisconsin is seeking a part-time Imaging Pediatric Nurse for their Central Access Team. This role involves working with Epic, CT, and Nuclear Med/Fluoroscopy. The nurse will provide nursing care and consultation for pediatric patients requiring central venous access, acting as a resource for case management, teaching, and discharge planning. Responsibilities include placing PICC lines, participating in infection surveillance, and educating staff on line care. The position requires flexibility in shifts and on-call duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an ADN or a BSN.
  • Three or more years of pediatric or intravenous nursing experience.
  • Analytical skills necessary to resolve complex patient problems, develop standards of care and procedures, and evaluate the quality of nursing care.
  • Understanding of CW health care delivery system and the impact of other health care delivery systems on the patient and family.
  • Mental and sensory abilities to read, process and interpret clinical data.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members, other CW departments, and consumers.
  • Ability to rotate shifts and/or work flexible hours to meet patient care needs.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods (over 80% of the assigned work period).
  • Ability to lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to take call as needed.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council).
  • License RN-Registered Nurse (State of Wisconsin).

  • BSN preferred.
  • PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council).

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the nursing process to assess responses to central vascular access interventions or treatment modalities.
  • Make decisions about procedural or equipment modifications and recommend procedural changes.
  • Negotiate systems to implement change.
  • Understand and satisfy the needs of neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patients.
  • Act as a resource for identifying patient needs related to discharge and assist case managers.
  • Develop content for formal and informal teaching for orientation and staff development.
  • Act as a resource for patients/families, physicians, and staff.
  • Assess patient/family needs related to discharge and offer input and additional resources.
  • Act as a consultant to staff and physicians.
  • Advocate for a surgical and/or radiological specialty or specific patient population.
  • Assist with the development of new and advanced skills required to support specialty procedures.
  • Assist in coordination of delivery of care and/or discharge by enlisting other resources.
  • Identify specialty needs and contribute to the development or expansion of programs.
  • Apply current research findings in practice and participate in data collection.
  • Maintain the Central Access Database.
  • Identify annual goals for professional growth and specialty development.
  • Respond to community needs related to a patient population.
  • Assist in setting expected standards of performance within specialty.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of staff and orientation/staff development needs.
  • Participate in orientation of staff to specialty.
  • Assist with analysis and implementation of systems to utilize resources efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Participate in the development of annual and operating budgets.
  • Support community education efforts and assess needs for specific populations.
