About The Position

Children’s Wisconsin is seeking a part-time Imaging Pediatric Nurse for their Central Access Team. This role involves working with Epic, CT, and Nuclear Med/Fluoroscopy. The nurse will provide nursing care and consultation to pediatric patients requiring central venous access, acting as a resource for case management, teaching, and discharge planning. Responsibilities include placing PICC lines, participating in infection surveillance, and educating staff on line care. The position requires flexibility in scheduling and on-call duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an ADN or a BSN.
  • Three or more years of pediatric or intravenous nursing experience.
  • Analytical skills necessary to resolve complex patient problems, develop standards of care and procedures, and evaluate the quality of nursing care.
  • Understanding of CW health care delivery system and the impact of other health care delivery systems on the patient and family.
  • Mental and sensory abilities to read, process and interpret clinical data.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members, other CW departments, and consumers.
  • Ability to rotate shifts and/or work flexible hours to meet patient care needs.
  • Ability to walk, stand for long periods (over 80% of the assigned work period).
  • Ability to lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to take call as needed.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council).
  • License RN-Registered Nurse (State of Wisconsin).

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council).

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing the nursing process to assess responses to central vascular access interventions or treatment modalities.
  • Acting as a resource in providing guidance in case management, teaching, and discharge planning of children with central venous lines.
  • Designing and providing ongoing staff education related to line care and maintenance.
  • Placing PICC lines under the medical direction of Interventional Radiologists.
  • Active participation in central line infection surveillance and data collection.
  • Making decisions about procedural or equipment modifications and recommendations for procedural changes.
  • Negotiating systems to implement change.
  • Understanding and satisfying the needs of neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patients in regards to their growth and development process.
  • Assisting case managers to develop/revise a case management plan and identifying/communicating potential solutions to variances.
  • Developing content for formal teaching for both orientation and staff development, and communicating content for informal teaching.
  • Acting as a consultant to staff and physicians.
  • Advocating for a surgical and/or radiological specialty or specific patient population.
  • Assisting with the development of new and advanced skills required to support procedures within a specialty.
  • Assisting in coordination of delivery of care and/or discharge by enlisting other resources.
  • Identifying specialty needs and contributing to the development or expansion of programs within a specialty.
  • Applying current research findings in practice, participating in data collection, and introducing current research into clinical practice.
  • Maintaining the Central Access Database.
  • Identifying annual goals for own professional growth and the means to achieve them.
  • Identifying annual goals for a specific specialty and incorporating them into unit and/or division of nursing goals.
  • Responding to the needs of the community related to a patient population.
  • Assisting in setting expected standards of performance within a specialty.
  • Assisting with staff evaluation and contributing to the evaluation of orientation and on-going staff development needs.
  • Participating in staff orientation to a specialty.
  • Assisting with analysis and implementation of systems to utilize available resources efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Participating in the development of annual and operating budgets in relation to a specialty.
  • Supporting community education efforts, assessing needs, and participating in and evaluating community education for a specific population.
