About The Position

The pediatric inpatient post-surgical unit, also known as Explorer, is a dynamic and fast-paced, 35-bed unit, specializing in post-surgical care for patients across various specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac, and neurology. With centralized monitoring, our dedicated staff ensures high-quality care for every patient, offering an excellent opportunity for nurses to acquire diverse skills due to the rapid turnover and patient variety. The unit also plays a crucial role in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with 12 beds – 6 for seizure monitoring and 6 for surgical overflow cases. Our EMU rooms are equipped with specialty equipment to monitor and visualize seizure activity, leading to improved treatment and better patient outcomes. Thirty percent of our nurses are nationally certified displaying our commitment to professional development and maintaining a high standard of care. Additionally, strive to be fully compliant with regulatory requirements daily. An unlicensed multi-skilled worker who supports patient care by performing specific nursing tasks and support functions as delegated by a licensed provider. Care provided by the PCT is supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Program Graduation from a patient care program (i.e. MA, CNA, EMT) OR Program One semester of an RN or LVN program OR Equivalent Experience Two years in a similar role in lieu of patient care program or nursing program requirement OR Equivalent Experience Current Valley Children's Pediatric Nurse Extern
  • BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to be delegated tasks by the RN
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner
