About The Position

This role involves performing complex cardiac and vascular ultrasound procedures, explaining them to patients and families, and adjusting techniques for age-related factors. The sonographer will produce quality Echocardiograms, Stress Echocardiograms, Transesophageal Echocardiograms, and/or Vascular studies, adhering to department policies, IAC standards, and guidelines from ASE and SDMS. The position requires recognizing normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology relevant to adult echocardiography and vascular ultrasound. Work will be performed in various environments including OR, ER, Trauma, and outpatient settings.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent required
  • RCS – Registered Cardiac Sonographer upon hire required OR
  • RDCS – Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer upon hire required OR
  • RVT – Registered Vascular Technologist upon hire required OR
  • RVS – Registered Vascular Specialist upon hire required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree from accredited school of Ultrasound Technology preferred
  • 1 year prior NICU experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Explain procedures to patient or guardian/family member if applicable prior to and during exam.
  • Perform complex procedures including age related criteria and developmental considerations.
  • Adjust technique parameters appropriately for age related factors
  • Produces quality Echocardiogram, Stress Echocardiogram, Transesophageal Echocardiogram, and/or Vascular studies following department policies and procedures, as well as IAC standards.
  • Employs relevant guidelines set forth by ASE and SDMS, including scope of practice. www.svunet.org, www.sdms.org, www.intersocietal.org/echo.
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology relevant to adult echocardiography. Adult echocardiography includes, but not limited to, transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), stress echocardiogram (treadmill and pharmacological) and echocardiogram with echo enhancing agents.
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology relevant to vascular ultrasound. Vascular ultrasound may include but not limited to, upper extremity arterial (UEA), upper extremity venous (UEV), lower extremity arterial (LEA), lower extremity venous (LEV), carotid (CAS), abdominal aortic (AA), ABI/segmental pressure, venous reflux, and vein mapping.
  • Work in tandem with staff to ensure laser images are placed on CD from modality or, PACS are printed, or Ambra as needed.
