About The Position

Cristo Rey schools deliver a career-focused, college preparatory education in the Catholic tradition for students with limited economic resources. Through the unique integration of rigorous academic curricula, four years of professional work experience, and support to and through college, Cristo Rey students are achieving their aspirations for postsecondary success at rates exceeding their peers. Faculty members are responsible for facilitating student learning and assessment, supervising students, ensuring safety and compliance with school rules, and participating in the ongoing development of the school's program of studies. They are expected to teach and model being men and women for others, interacting positively with students, offering academic and personal guidance, and upholding the Catholic identity of the school. Involvement in the school community through moderating clubs, coaching athletic teams, and serving as adult leaders on retreats is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in the content area and at least 12 credit hours in education.
  • Must complete state certification within the first two years of employment.
  • Must be able to pass background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years teaching experience preferred
  • Teaching in marginalized communities preferred
  • Training in reading or literacy strategies preferred
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred
  • Willingness to get involved in the school community by moderating clubs, coaching athletic teams, and serving as adult leaders on retreats.

Responsibilities

  • Develop rigorous lessons in subject area through a culturally relevant lens for predominantly first generation, low-income students.
  • Incorporate Ignatian pedagogy in order to design more effective classroom experiences.
  • Utilize data-driven instruction and analysis of student assessment data.
  • Set and maintain high academic expectations for all students.
  • Design and update course curriculum using backwards planning and assessment data.
  • Foster relationships with families to better facilitate open communication.
  • Hold regular office hours to provide additional instruction and support to individual students.
  • Build appropriate rapport and trust with students, and redirect student behavior as needed.
  • Develop professionally by working with other teachers and leaders to improve student learning, participating in professional developments, and providing and receiving feedback from school leaders.
  • Commit to our mission to inspire and prepare students of limited economic resources to succeed in college and lead their communities as compassionate, committed, and competent men and women for others for the greater glory of God.
  • Be actively involved in the School’s religious life and have a pastoral attitude toward students.
  • Participate in the school community through supervision duties, retreats, and special events.
