PCB Librarian / eCAD Library Engineer

Dell Technologies•TX, TX
•$161,000 - $209,000

About The Position

The PCB Librarian / eCAD Library Engineer will build and maintain enterprise design libraries used for schematic capture and PCB design. The role creates and validates library content using Cadence Allegro PCB Designer, Pulse Managed Libraries, OrCAD Capture, and System Capture, and partners with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering teams and suppliers to deliver accurate, standards-compliant data from concept through production. The engineer will also help introduce AI tools and agentic workflows into library processes to improve speed and consistency. The position is on Dell Technologies’ Electrical Engineering team in Round Rock, Texas. The team supports the full hardware development lifecycle, from concept to production, working with designers, cross-functional teams, and suppliers to meet schedule, feature, quality, and industry-standard requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of expertise in PCB design, PCB layout, and eCAD library development.
  • Advanced proficiency with Cadence Allegro PCB Designer, OrCAD Capture, Cadence System Capture, Pulse Managed Libraries, and large-scale enterprise component library management.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB design methodologies, component packaging technologies, IPC-7351/IPC-2221 standards, and PCB manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Ability to develop schematic symbols, footprints, 3D models, and component databases from datasheets and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with PLM systems and library automation.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging AI tools and agentic workflows to improve engineering and hardware design processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting and managing large-scale enterprise component libraries.
  • Knowledge of IPC-7351/IPC-2221 standards and library automation within PLM environments such as Windchill, Agile, or Teamcenter.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI tools and agentic workflows to engineering and design processes, with an interest in using AI to improve hardware development efficiency and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and maintain eCAD component libraries, including schematic symbols, PCB footprints, 3D models, and component database attributes.
  • Ensure library data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with company standards, IPC requirements, datasheets, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) guidelines.
  • Improve library workflows, documentation, and quality controls, including leveraging AI-enabled tools to increase efficiency and consistency.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, supply chain, and suppliers to support component qualification, new technology introduction, and library best practices.
  • Conduct library audits, verify symbol-to-footprint mappings, and support migration and integration of library data across eCAD systems and enterprise databases.
