About The Position

This role involves assisting engineers in the design and development of complex and detailed layouts of printed circuit boards with minimal supervision. The PC Board Designer will provide creative technical solutions for working plans, detailed drawings, and completed electrical drawings of printed circuit (PC) board components and assemblies. The position requires working from preliminary schematics, notes, part lists, rough or detailed sketches, and basic descriptions of board function. The designer will establish design standards and configurations, verify completed design elements, and manage PC board design oversight for projects. This role also involves developing complex schematics, PC board layouts, drawings, and details, validating conformity to design standards, and making engineering computations using CAD software. Archiving engineering data, interacting with PCB vendors, and providing direction to less experienced designers are also key responsibilities. The designer must remain current in CAD techniques, ANSI Y4.15 drawing principles, IPC Standards, and appropriate specialty design software, while adhering to all laws, regulations, and safety practices.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associates' degree or a training certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in basic electronics technology and in CAD design software.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience designing PC boards utilizing CAD engineering design software PADS Power PCB and PADS Power Logic (PCAD 8.5 optional).
  • Complete and in-depth understanding and wide application of PC board design concepts and drawing principles, including ANSI Y4.15 and IPC Standards.
  • Demonstrated high skill level using CAD engineering software.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Ability to organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate approach at the task level to provide creative solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong documentation, archiving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Experience with CAD specialty engineering design software: PADS Power PCB and PADS Power Logic (PCAD 8.5 optional).
