About The Position

Responsible for overseeing and managing the organization’s payroll functions to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee compensation. This includes ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, resolving discrepancies, maintaining payroll records, and collaborating with the Human Resource department. The Payroll Supervisor also implements process improvements and ensures adherence to company policies and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of experience in school payroll and benefits
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows based programs and Google (word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software), required
  • Demonstrated high level of confidentiality, integrity, and discretion
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and establish positive relationships with colleagues, school staff, and the kids and families of FHPS
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly organized and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll for teachers, administrators, supervisors
  • Reconcile the biweekly payroll
  • Monitor and reconcile payroll liability accounts
  • Submit payroll direct deposit to the district’s financial institution
  • Complete ORS biweekly reports, final payroll details, audits, payments, and small steps campaign
  • Prepare monthly and year-end journal entries
  • Complete, file, and reconcile the IRS form 941 by the required deadline
  • Prepare and submit annual W-2 forms by the required deadline
  • Process annual group life charges
  • Report quarterly unemployment wages to appropriate institution
  • Complete State of Michigan monthly tax return, including sales tax
  • Assist with calculation of bus drivers 30-hour average
  • Assist with reconciling employee benefits to the employee ledger
  • Assist with calendar year close and open
  • Assist with fiscal year end close
  • Update tax tables as necessary
  • Prepare payroll due diligence letters
  • Prepare information for all payroll-related audits
  • Assist with employee retirement questions related to MPSERS
  • Assist with unemployment claims
  • Serve as back-up to the payroll technician, including processing biweekly payroll for support staff
  • Assist with estimating employee costs for grants and other funding
  • Monitor and track ESTA to ensure compliance
  • Consistent and reliable punctuality and attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance
