About The Position

Our client, a leader in the mining industry, is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join their team on a long term basis in the Vaughan area. We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist who will be responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across Canada and the U.S. This role requires a high level of confidentiality, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

Requirements

Strong Canadian payroll knowledge with foundational U.S. payroll understanding.
Advanced proficiency in ADP Workforce Now, HRIS, and Excel.
Ability to maintain high-volume accuracy under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication skills with strong stakeholder alignment.
Organized self-starter with accountability for delivery.
Curious, proactive, and adaptable to change.
Experience with payroll processing, tax compliance, and payroll tax management.
Knowledge of RRSPs and 401(k) plans.

Responsibilities

Process bi-weekly payroll for both hourly and salaried employees across Canada and the U.S.
Validate payroll data, including earnings, deductions, garnishments, and adjustments.
Assist with year-end and statutory reporting, such as T4s, W-2s, and accruals.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulations.
Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive employee data.
Import, balance, and validate timekeeping data into payroll systems.
Process pensions, RRSP/401(k), and employer contributions.
Reconcile payroll, vendor, and benefit deductions, and resolve discrepancies.
Partner with HR on employee data changes, including hires, terminations, and updates.
Support inquiries from employees and internal stakeholders.
Coordinate special payments, bonuses, and off-cycle runs.
Support payroll projects, including data validation, UAT, and system integration.
Maintain SOPs, desktop procedures, KPIs, and issue logs.
Contribute to process improvements and system optimization initiatives.
