About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with all relevant regulations and agreements. The Payroll Specialist will manage assigned payroll processes, prepare reports, conduct audits, and provide support to employees and business partners. This position requires staying current with legislative changes and delivering excellent customer service regarding payroll inquiries. The role also involves collaborating with other departments, adhering to standard operating procedures, and maintaining payroll records.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in payroll processing and related software.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local/provincial wage and tax laws.
  • Experience with payroll deductions (benefits, wage garnishments, taxes).
  • Ability to prepare and balance payroll data.
  • Experience in preparing monthly union reports.
  • Skill in auditing payroll reports and identifying/resolving data issues.
  • Ability to assist employees with time and attendance questions.
  • Experience partnering with internal and external business partners for system testing.
  • Proficiency in Excel for analytics and reporting (ad-hoc and scheduled).
  • Ability to provide payroll coverage for other regions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Adherence to Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
  • Experience in maintaining payroll record retention.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures employee wages are paid in accordance with all applicable federal, state, local/provincial regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ensures employee payroll deductions are properly calculated and deducted (benefits, wage garnishments, taxes).
  • Responsible for assigned payroll process and data accuracy, including upload file preparation and balancing.
  • Prepare monthly union reports.
  • Audits all preview payroll reports for anomalies; identifies and addresses issues within the data set.
  • Assists employees with time and attendance questions.
  • Partners with Internal and External Business Partners to test new functional system enhancements, system updates and integrations.
  • Provides Excel analytics and reporting, ad-hoc and scheduled.
  • Participate in payroll coverage for other regions as needed.
  • Is compliant & stays up to date on legislative changes regarding federal, state, local/provincial wage, and tax laws.
  • Delivers excellent customer service by providing accurate and meaningful answers to employee wage, and tax inquiries.
  • Collaborates with other shared service divisions.
  • Adheres to learning guides/Standard Operations Procedures (“SOP”) and best practice content.
  • Maintains payroll record retention for all edits and adjustments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
