About The Position

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist is a Temporary Full-Time position based at Nch’ḵaỷ’s Head Office in West Vancouver, BC. This role reports to the Finance Manager and collaborates with the Human Resources Department. The specialist will be responsible for processing hourly and salaried pay cycles accurately and efficiently, reporting on benefits and pension plans for a group of entities. The position is key to ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of payroll processes, maintaining a high level of service, and handling payroll-related issues professionally. Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role performing the tasks and duties outlined in this job description.
  • Experience with full cycle payroll preferred.
  • Experience using payroll systems and software (e.g. UKG Pro and WFM)
  • Hands-on experience and proficiency in posting to a corporate accounting system.
  • Strong technical aptitude with UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group), specifically in troubleshooting and resolving system-related payroll issues.
  • Experience with ROE Web and posting Records of Employment through the Service Canada website.
  • Advanced knowledge of Office 365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant Post-Secondary Education in Accounting, and/or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification is an asset.
  • Direct experience with NetSuite is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience working in a First Nations organization or environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for Nch’ḵaỷ and its subsidiary entities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records for all employees, ensuring deductions, benefits and tax filings are correct.
  • Perform period-end and year-end duties including reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Review employer contributions to statutory programs like the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Employment Insurance (EI), ensuring they match recorded expenses.
  • Prepare tax forms, ROEs, remittances and other payroll related forms when required.
  • Proactively identify and resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Calculate and audit leave balances such as vacation, sick leave, personal leave.
  • Provide in depth analysis to support decision making.
  • Ensure statutory holiday entitlements and related termination pay are in compliance with BC Employment Standards.
  • Stay up-to date on Canadian payroll legislation and best practices.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the benefits and payroll services are delivered at best practice standards.
  • Reconcile and post payroll journal entries including those related to Pension and Benefits.
  • Maintain accurate communication with external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other departments, managers, supervisors and peers.
  • Resolve team member queries and support them with their payroll needs.
  • Respond promptly to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits or taxes matters.
  • Perform other duties as required.
